Friends of the National World War II Memorial develops and leads successful character-based education programming and community service initiatives using stories of the everyday men and women of the WWII generation to remind young people that each one of them, as an individual, has the potential to change the world for the better.

Listed below are highlights of Friends' education programs. They reflect the many ways in which we strive to foster a meaningful appreciation of the sacrifices made by the Greatest Generation—and the values that motivated them.

• Annual week-long summer teachers’ conferences in Washington, D.C.
• Community service projects, involving tens of thousands of citizens across the country.
• Monthly virtual conference series—staple for history enthusiasts, educators, and students.
• In-person high school presentations by author, historian, and storyteller Alex Kershaw sharing stories of those who served in World War II and inspiring students to be proud of their country, to unite to meet challenges, and to serve others.
